Blinging In the New Year

Remember, sequins are for life, not just for Christmas... I begged Santa for this gorgeous little necklace-embellished jumper, having spied it on a "This Morning" festive fashion feature teamed with a sequinned pencil skirt for a '50s-fabulous feel... Enter: the lower half of the beautiful Boohoo co-ords I've been wearing pretty much non-stop since Christmas Day...

Perhaps a teeny bit too bling for ballet at the Royal Opera House, though, even for me... so, for New Year's  Eve, I decided to go tonal, whilst retaining the festive '50s vibe, with last year's cranberry velvet midi... Topped off with the classic camel-coloured version of my  favourite Collectif midi trench, which Santa was also kind enough to pop in my stocking...

Sequins, Sparkles and Skate Shoes

Who says a sequin-covered suit ain't versatile? Having done the double on Christmas Day, I decided to dress the skirt down (slightly) for the weekend with the gorgeous jewel-embellished waffle knit jumper I had also been lucky enough to unwrap on Christmas morning... Providing the perfect canvas for showcasing the metallic skater flats which had been languishing within my shoe collection for the past few months whilst I puzzled over what on earth to pair them with!

The Skater Sweater Dress

Whilst hem and boot lengths have risen and fallen, woolly berets have been ditched for fedoras and my coat collection has exponentially expanded, the sweater dress has been my stalwart winter staple, with my first classic black turtleneck version seeing me through six consecutive seasons. Throw on, dress up, dress down - hassle-free style at its finest! And then there are the statement styles... like this extreme fit 'n' flare alpine knit number - how Primark have managed to cut this so ingeniously I have no idea - there really is no hidden tutu/scaffolding/wind machine lurking out of shot!

How to Wear Over-the-Knee Boots

Over-the-knee boots have been one of my AW footwear staples for half a decade now, invariably accompanied by leggings/leather skinnies/skinny jeans and an oversized shirt or jumper, so, this year, I decided it was time to switch up the tried-and-tested formula... I'd always been wary of the "Pretty Woman" connotations of a thigh-high + mini combo, but, inspired by this season's winter folk trend, I decided to give it a go (fur coat and all)...
