Last week, I was invited to preview Matalan's AW14 collection. As you may have noticed, I've been a rather enthusiastic consumer of their SS14 collection, so I was dying to see what they had in store for autumn. And... I was pretty bowled over, particularly by the standout coat and accessory ranges - I'm not sure I've ever seen so many could-be-designer pieces with such weeny price tags in one place!
Following last season's frantic scrabbling for pastel coats and tartan pieces, it looks like we'll be spoilt for choice this year, with '60s style peacoat, cocoon, duster and midi crombie styles leading the way when it comes to outerwear, alongside faux fur in '70s boho and ladylike collarless cuts.
Meanwhile, shoes and bags are achingly stylish without, refreshingly, scrimping on practicality - the winged dogtooth tote, chunky-heeled grey snakeskin and fluoro yellow T-bars, floral flats and cream toecap brogues are going straight to the top of my new season wish list, alongside the yellow pea jacket, pink midi crombie, fluffy blue boyfriend coat...
Are you a Matalan fan? What do you think of their new collection?
