Hell for Leather: Introducing the Autumn/Winter Skort!

A couple of posts ago, I was sharing my white skort's summertime adventures with you, and pondering the possibilities of purchasing a more wintry version... Since then, autumn has rather unceremoniously ousted summer from London for who-knows-how-long, causing my crisp white ensembles to be passed over for more gothic garb (although the monochrome love-in persists unabated - do not be alarmed). But the reign of the skort continues! Mummy Muses spied this leathery lovely on the Daisy Street website and kindly purchased it for me as an early birthday present (and yes, I am already wearing it, a full 2 weeks in advance, oops!).

Skort: Daisy Street (Available Here), Shirt, Boots and Leather Bralet (Under Shirt): All Primark

This little beauty will see me right through to spring with opaques and boots, but, for now, I'm making the most of the last few days of tights-free weather! Made from a wonderfully stretchy material, it's soooo comfy (though, being kinda in-between-sizes, I did go for the larger size, which was the right decision).

I am, as the title says, going hell for leather with even more gusto than usual this season - in addition to the brand new high-rise leather trews I currently sport as I type, I finally found my perfect varsity/baseball jacket (below), fortuitously styled up with the skort on the Daisy Street website! Monochrome, leather-sleeved and under £25; I have been waiting a loooong time for this combination!

How to Wear the Skort: 8 More Ways

A few weeks ago, I introduced you to my amazing £6.89 (including delivery!) eBay dupe for the Zara mini skort (check out the original post here for close-up shots, and my skort + kimono combo - N.B. I am happy to report that, following some swift repair work from Mummy Muses, rigorous testing has revealed no further issues of the peep-hole variety).

As with knee-high gladiator sandals and kimonos, you really have no idea what you're missing out on until you have one of these babies in your wardrobe! My bargain skort has served me faithfully through a surprisingly summery British Summer, happily accompanying flats and heels, tees and shirts alike... I am sorely tempted to invest in black and cobalt versions for winter...

£6.89 Zara Skort Dupe

Yes, the skort brigade has gained a new recruit! I wasn't too sure about the style initially, but, as per usual, indoctrination has been swift and relatively painless... it is a pretty ingenious idea, after all - updating the micro mini with not only a contemporary graphic flavour, but a design which allows you to ride out a heatwave with no concerns re: potential flashing! I very nearly snapped up the original (when it was, if you can believe it, in stock). At Zara's virtual checkout, though, I have to admit I balked at the delivery charge (a pet hate, unless I can hunt out a discount code to bypass them) and decided to try my luck on eBay... Amidst the originals selling for twice the original £25.99 price tag (seriously?), I spotted a crop of Eastern dupes going for less than £7, with FREE delivery (making Zara's £3.95 shipping charge appear all the more unjust)! Had to be worth a try at that price...

In terms of appearance, comfort and fit? Pretty close to perfect. And you can't really argue with a 7 day international turnover time. If you do go for a dupe, make sure you check the size chart, ensuring that the hip measurement will accommodate you - Asian sizing is smaller than Western/Zara sizing, so you'll probably need to go up a size or two. Some of the stitching could be better though... the first time I flopped onto the sofa in it, I ended up with an, ahem, crotchless skort - so much for no concerns re: flashing!

Pre-unintentional-customisation, I'd decided to pair it with my trusty kimono to play on the origami feel... Can't wait to explore its potential further... once a few minor repairs have been carried out, that is!
