How to Wear Culottes into Autumn... and Beyond...

No need to put your favourite calf-skimmers into premature hibernation this season - simply slip into a pair of knee/thigh highs. A leather-suede culotte-boot pairing provides the perfect foil for chillier temperatures and the perfect quick fix for our seemingly insatiable hunger for '70s nostalgia - just make sure you mix up your finishes. Here are my two favourite power couples of the moment... Simply add a cosy knit or geo-print/burnt orange retro-style blouse, then pile on the shaggy faux fur when the mercury really begins to dip...

A Little Rusty (Cord Mini)

Sandwiched between the most comfortable boots I have ever worn (a 5.5 mile shopping trip in 4.5 inch heels with no ball (of foot) ache? Primark's platforms make the dream a reality) and my snuggly new Zara knit (yup, I'm on board the sleeves-over-hands trend train, and the future is clearly all about funnel-necks-over-heads), this little cord mini allows my suede separates a rare day off... Savour the moment, guys.

Suede on Suede... for under £80

Up until recently, I'd always treated '70s style as a transient summer trend - doesn't the sun always bring with it an irresistible urge to indulge our inner bohemian? But, this season, suede macs, flares and culottes have been dropping almost as fast as those autumn leaves, bringing with them the even more irresistible urge to take our love-in with '70s fashion to the next level...

Since I, for one, refuse to countenance either (a) draping myself in the skins of dead animals from head to toe, or (b) spending more than £50 on any one item of clothing, I was beside myself with glee on coming across H&M's faux suede beauts... at £29.99 for a buttery-soft, second-skin-like pair of flares, and £49.99 for the most beautiful coat I've seen on the high street this year, they're surely a gift from the fashion heavens...

On the Fence...

Look, no bricks! Yup, trans-seasonal lighting difficulties have forced me off my wall and into the bush across the way... thankfully, though, the high neck and booty lines of autumn's Victoriana x '70s vibe have eradicated any danger of concurrent trans-seasonal dressing difficulties...

Two new season bargain buys to share today... the perfect retro-boho mini dress, picked up for £14.99 in H&M's Wimbledon store last week (and already, understandably, virtually sold out online) and the perfect OTK leather boots, reduced from £115 to an incredible £35... before being pushed back up to £57! Still a bit of a steal though, even if you didn't take the hint from my AW15 High Street Hit List post...
