The Peplum Hem, Part 1: The Midi
The peplum has migrated south for the summer, with flared hems dropping left, right and centre, so when I saw this £12 Boohoo beauty on Lorraine (providence having woken me up uncharacteristically early), I snapped it up on the spot. And... I'm in love - even more glam than a standard pencil skirt but even easier to wear (bypassing any danger of hobbling enforced by glued-together knees). Amazingly, it's still available in all sizes, so I'd strongly advise you to snap one up while you can...

4 More Ways to Wear a 3D Floral Skirt
A couple of months ago, I bought this long-lusted-after fairytale-esque 3D floral skirt from Boohoo, along with the matching sweatshirt (see them together in this post). Temperatures have since prohibited the wearing of anything tagged with the word "sweat", so skirtie's had to go solo...

As you may remember me warning you in my original post, the inside waistband of this skirt is rather scratchy - however, thankfully, the purchase of some exceptionally gorgeous high-waisted knickers (Bridget would be proud) has eliminated the problem, allowing me to crop 'til I drop - hoorah!
Midas Touch

This T-shirt has been enjoying something of a renaissance this season, I know! Who knew a loose metallic tee was such a wardrobe essential? The sad thing is, I can't actually wear it in "real life", since the metallic sheen has rubbed off in certain key areas... doesn't show up in photos though, so I'm getting as much wear out of it as I can! Any block-coloured loose tee would look good with this skirt... The boots edge it up a bit - though I think this is as far as I dare to push such a girly item!

Guess who's back? Jeez, someone's going to accuse me of having a capsule wardrobe soon... You really need to join the kimono club yourself to understand the bond between owner and silky Oriental floral.

Yes, still indulging my mono-mania! Since the cream shades in the shirt and shoes both happened to match the skirt exactly, it would have been rude not to... I'm almost looking forward to it finally getting colder again so I can team up with black opaques and sweaters for an AW mono look!

Review: Boohoo Pinafore Dungarees
As you may know, I had one eye on the dungaree trend before it exploded onto the mainstream, so was devastated when the low-rise, light-wash-denim versions that first appeared on the scene coloured me more "Window Cleaner Barbie" than effortlessly-cool-ironic-fashionista, a la the boyish types I've seen stalking down the high street in those £17 Primark ones - grr.
Never one to take no for an answer when it comes to finding a way to force a trend to work for me, however, an exhaustive pounding of the streets/web threw up Topshop's higher-waisted, peg-legged pinafore-style versions - perfect, but for one minor factor - a price tag in excess of £50... sorry, unacceptable, Toppers! But then... up stepped Boohoo with these - matching, and even exceeding the plus points of the Topshop Pinis (well, how cute are those ruched ankles?), for a mere £25! I was lucky/eagle-eyed enough to spy out the white versions before Little Mix's stylist, thus beating the hordes of Jade copycats who now seem to have bought out the lot, but you can still get them in black (pretty sure I need to invest for A/W!).
The pinafore-cut and tailoring make these a lot more flattering than those low-slung denim versions for those of us with curves: emphasising the waist and hips, whilst the slouchy fit of the trouser section still gives you that carefree "not-even-trying" vibe. If you're over 5'7 and/or a D cup, I'd advise going up a size (I went for 10 rather than 8 after noting that the model seemed to be sizing up!) to retain the slouchy feel and adequate leg length. Each shoulder strap has 2 button fastenings to choose from so that you can adjust the length, but if you still need them slightly longer (as a 32E, I did), simply fasten each one to the fitting on the same side, rather than crossing them first. Overall, a highly recommended buy (and yes, you will be seeing a lot more of them worn in a few zillion different ways soon!).

Transitional Monochrome - How to Wear Come Sun or Snow
By now I think we're all aware that monochrome is "in", no? I'm not sure it's ever been "out", and it's certainly always been one of my failsafe looks, but this season's mono-mania has inspired me to get a bit more creative, and, in the absence of any weather bearing the slightest resemblance to spring, popping a black and white ensemble together is the easiest way to channel a new season vibe, even if we can't pack our woollies away just yet.
Hounds vs. Stripes
Dress, Belt, Blazer and Boots: All Primark, Hair Band: New Look (I think! Past Season)
If I hadn't bought this dress and blazer at the same time, I probably wouldn't have thought to put them together, but clashing monochrome patterns is one of the safest, but most impactful, ways to combine contrasting prints. I nabbed both in the Primark sale - the blazer for £7, and the dress for... £1! It was the last of its kind, marked £7 but missing its belt, so the manager agreed to reduce it to £5, but on scanning it found it had already been reduced to £2, so, short of giving it away, there was nothing for it but to give me a 50% reduction!! I always think monochrome goes hand in hand with a '60s look, so the belt, boots and beehive polish it off perfectly for me.

Velvet vs. Wool

Another '60s inspired look... velvet and woollen fabrics add a cosy-luxe feel, whilst a flash of tummy takes the look into the new season (addition of substantial coat clearly necessary if actually venturing out in the current climate though!). This age 12 M&S kids' skirt has been one of my staples for years now - I've never seen such a cute dogtooth skater designed for adults!
Sheer Abandon

Sharpening My Pencil

Another of my most satisfyingly good value houndstooth sales purchases of all time (a River Island skirt for £10 = RESULT), this pencil skirt has served me faithfully for a year - equally perfect with a jumper and opaques, classic shirt or crop top, depending on meteorological conditions - a true monochromatic hero buy!

And here is my first attempt to tie my own hair in a bow! It makes me feel a little Harajuku Girl, especially combined with the socks! This is a peplum top which I've already featured a couple of times, cunningly disguised as a humble striped tee!
Riviera vs. Disco
I've craved a pair of high-waisted capri pants for years, if not decades, so, this time, I decided to go DIY - turn my disco pant hems up - et voila! The sunglasses may be rather optimistic, but call it a rehearsal for summer...
